SGA Constitution

Constitution for the Student Government Association of San Juan del Rio Catholic School

 

Article I

Section One: This organization shall be known as the Student Government Association of San Juan del Rio, St. Johns, Florida.

Section Two: The purpose of this organization shall be to promote good citizenship, to encourage a high standard of scholarship, to arouse school spirit, to demonstrate the practical application of democracy, and to advance the welfare of the school and its members in every possible manner.

 

Article II

Slate of Officers

Section One: The Student Body of SJDR Catholic School, from grades three through seven will elect a 6 member Slate of officers that will serve for one school year.  Grades three through seven will choose one student from each homeroom to represent their class and grade.

Section Two: Qualifications and Duties of officers.

President

 

  1. Qualifications:
  2. Must be 8th grader
  3. Academic grades must average a “C” .The officer has two weeks to bring up “D” grades.
  4. Shall have attended SJDR one-year prior.

Duties:

  1. Supervise, plan, and attend all student government activities
  2. Presides and plans all SGA meetings.
  3. Votes only in cases of a tie
  4. 8th grade banquet address
  5. Promotes all other school activitiesg.   Works hard to keep people activei.    Write articles for the newsletter as deemed necessary by the adviser
  6. Liaison to advisor, principal, and school board
  7. Appoints committees
  8. Welcomes each new student
  9. Organizes SGA Mass ( Catholic Schools Week)

Vice-President

Qualifications:

  1. Must be 7th grader
  2. Academic grades must average a “C”. The officer has two weeks to bring up “D” grades.
  3. Shall have attended SJDR one-year prior.

Duties:

  1. Assist president -Supervise, plan, and attend all student government activities
  2. Presides and plans all SGA representative meetings- records minutes of metings
  3. Supervises committees
  4. Promotes all other school activities
  5. Keep written account of all meeting.

Treasurer

Qualifications:

  1. Must be 6th-8th grader
  2. Academic grades must average a “C”. The officer has two weeks to bring up “D” grades.
  3. Shall have attended SJRD one-year prior.
  4. Math grade must average “B” or higher.

Duties:

  1. Keep accurate record of money accounts.
  2. Report/work with school bookkeeper.
  3. Promotes all other school activities

 

Service Secretary.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be 6th-8th grader
  2. Academic grades must average a “C”. The officer has two weeks to bring up “D” grades.
  3. Shall have attended SJDR one-year prior.
  4. Must be very organized

Duties:

  1. Organize all service activities
  2. Shop when necessary.
  3. Search for new service opportunities
  4. Create opportunities to involve younger representatives in service
  5. Promotes all other school activities

 

Social Secretary.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be 6th-8th grader
  2. Academic grades must average a “C”. The officer has two weeks to bring up “D” grades.
  3. Shall have attended SRDR one-year prior.
  4. Must be very organized
  5. Must have very good communication skills

Duties:

  1. Arrange music and chaperones for SGA dance.
  2. Keep Principal informed of all activities
  3. Arrange social activities outside of school
  4. Arrange Catholic schools week entertainment
  5. Create banner committee to work throughout school year
  6. Promotes all other school activities.
  7. Decorating committee chair
  8. Must strive to be inclusive of all student body

 

Student Ambassador:

Qualifications:

  1. Must be 8th grader
  2. Academic grades must average a “C”.
  3. Must be very knowledgeable about San Juan del Rio.
  4. Must be very organized and have good communication skills

Duties:

  1. Reaches out to all new students via email phone calls, etc. (Grades 5-8)
  2. Conducts 6th grade orientation
  3. Welcomes new students with pennants during first week of school
  4. Answers questions for students and parents.

Classroom Representative:

  1. Selected by individual classes
  2. Bring ideas from students to the council
  3. Report to the class after each meeting
  4. Participates on committees

 

Section Three: In case of vacancy in the office of President, the Vice-President shall assume the duties of the President.

Section Four: Meetings

The SGA shall meet twice a quarter while school is in session and once during preplanning to prepare for the school year.   The President or board members may call special meetings as needed.   A long range plan with goals and benchmarks should be devised during pre-planning.

Article III

Nominations and Elections

Section One: Any student wishing to become a candidate and who meets the requirements must formally declare his/her candidacy to the designated official on or before the designated due date. No late applications will be accepted
